Egypt daily News – A tragic train collision occurred near Zagazig in Egypt’s Sharqia Governorate, resulting in the death of three individuals and injuries to 40 others, as reported by the Ministry of Health.
Emergency services, including 20 ambulances, were quickly deployed to the scene to assist the injured and transport them to hospitals.
According to Egyptian media, the incident involved a passenger train traveling from Zagazig to Ismailia colliding with another train coming from Mansoura to Zagazig at Block 5.
In response to the accident, senior government officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and the Minister of Industry and Transport, have mobilized to handle the situation on-site. Emergency equipment was also dispatched as part of the response.
The Public Prosecution has initiated an investigation into the train collision and established two committees to determine the causes of the accident.
The first committee consists of engineers from the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, while the second is composed of technical engineers from the Egyptian National Railways.
Their role will be to examine the trains involved and assess whether safety regulations were adhered to.
Additionally, the Attorney General has assigned a team of investigators to oversee the investigation. They have already visited the accident site and are working to clear the area to restore normal train operations while also collecting information from injured individuals and managing the legal process for the deceased.
