Egypt Daily News – Dr. Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, participated today in a dialogue session entitled “Dialogue for Peace” at the activities of the Rome Mediterranean Dialogues Forum, and reviewed the Egyptian mediation efforts with regional and international partners to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the catastrophic conditions that the population is suffering from.
The Gaza Strip is a result of the Israeli aggression, obstruction of the access of humanitarian aid, and the adoption of a starvation policy, highlighting Egypt’s complete rejection of displacing Palestinians outside their lands.
Regarding the future of the Gaza Strip, he stressed the need to enable the Palestinian Authority to restore its status in the Gaza Strip, especially with regard to humanitarian activities, and warned against any efforts to separate the Gaza Strip from the rest of the Palestinian territories.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also reviewed Egypt’s position in support of Lebanon on the political and humanitarian levels, expressing Egypt’s complete rejection of compromising Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and respecting the desire of the Lebanese people to choose their president without foreign interference.
He also discussed Egyptian efforts aimed at reaching an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon. Minister Abdel Ati discussed developments in the situation in the Red Sea. He stressed the necessity of following a comprehensive approach that includes several elements, including putting an end to the war in Gaza and working to reduce the escalation, pointing to the repercussions on the Egyptian economy due to the tension in the Red Sea.
At the end of the session, he stressed that military options prove to be a failure and do not achieve peace and stability in the region, and that diplomatic solutions are indispensable. He stressed the need to address the roots of instability in the region, which is ending the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories.
