Egypt Daily News – Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended a ministerial meeting focused on the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution in Madrid.

During the meeting, he praised the recent recognition of Palestinian statehood by several countries, including Spain, Norway, Ireland, and Slovenia, noting that such recognition supports the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, particularly their right to self-determination.

Dr. Abdel Atty highlighted the dire humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, highlighting daily violations of international humanitarian law by Israel, especially concerning the targeting of civilians.

He voiced Egypt’s support for initiatives aimed at facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and called for urgent international action to halt hostilities and ensure compliance with international law for the unobstructed delivery of assistance.

The Minister also stated Egypt’s opposition to the Israeli military presence in the Philadelphi Corridor and at the Rafah crossing, which he argued hinders aid flow into Gaza. He accused Israel of using starvation as a tactic against Palestinians and stressed that it must fulfill its legal obligations as an occupying power by fully opening its crossings.

Dr. Abdel Atty asserted that Israel’s military presence has political motives, aiming to hinder the return of the legitimate Palestinian Authority to Gaza and to undermine peace mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.

Furthermore, Dr. Abdel Atty reiterated Egypt’s commitment to working with international partners to realize the two-state solution, which advocates for an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.

He emphasized that the recognition of this state and its full UN membership are critical steps toward achieving peace, framing such recognition as both a right for the Palestinian people and a responsibility of the international community.
