Egypt Daily News – US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that negotiations between Hamas and Israel regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip have made significant progress, noting that the contentious issues have been reduced from four points to just one, paving the way for an imminent agreement between the two parties.

This came during a press conference held by Witkoff in the presence of US President Donald Trump and several members of the US administration. He explained that talks are still ongoing to bridge the gap between the two sides, and that the US team is working hard to bridge the remaining gap.

Witkoff said: “We hope that a comprehensive ceasefire agreement will be reached by the end of this week,” emphasizing that current efforts are focused on ending the conflict in a comprehensive manner, not just a temporary lull.

The U.S. envoy stressed that the ultimate goal of the United States is to achieve “lasting peace in Gaza,” noting that the progress made so far is encouraging and that reaching an agreement is now a matter of time if the parties continue to show flexibility.

These remarks come at a time when international pressure is mounting to halt military operations in the sector, amid deteriorating humanitarian conditions and increasing calls for an immediate ceasefire.
