Egypt Daily News – The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has demanded the release of the seventh batch of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons before the start of negotiations for the second phase.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said that “the occupation continues to violate the ceasefire agreement by delaying the release of prisoners.”
He noted that the movement is in contact with mediators regarding Israel’s breach of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which he claimed is supported by the United States.
“We demand the release of the seventh batch of prisoners before discussing the extension of the first phase. The prisoners must be released before negotiations for the second phase can begin,” he added.
He stressed that extending the first phase depends on the proposals presented and guarantees of Israel’s commitment, emphasizing the need for “serious guarantees” from mediators, including the United States.
On late Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu postponed the release of 602 Palestinian prisoners, citing alleged “violations” by Hamas.
According to Israeli radio, the decision to delay the release came after two security meetings held by Netanyahu on Saturday with senior security officials and top ministers, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, following Hamas’ release of six detainees.
