Egypt Daily News – Has Salah’s dream of winning the Ballon d’Or ended? The Egyptian star Mohamed Salah’s chances in the Ballon d’Or race this year have significantly declined after his team, Liverpool, was eliminated from the Champions League Round of 16 by Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite Salah’s exceptional season with Liverpool, where he currently leads the Premier League’s top scorers with 27 goals, the Reds’ exit from the Champions League last week has dealt a major blow to his hopes of winning the Ballon d’Or this year.

According to estimates by the French newspaper L’Équipe, Salah’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or stand at only 7.4%, placing him fifth among the nominees, behind Frenchman Ousmane Dembélé, Brazilian Raphinha, Spanish youngster Lamine Yamal, and Kylian Mbappé.

Here is the ranking of the top eight Ballon d’Or candidates for 2025, according to L’Équipe:

  1. Ousmane Dembélé (France, Paris Saint-Germain) – 40.9%
  2. Raphinha (Brazil, Barcelona) – 25%
  3. Lamine Yamal (Spain, Barcelona) – 8.8%
  4. Kylian Mbappé (France, Paris Saint-Germain) – 8%
  5. Mohamed Salah (Egypt, Liverpool) – 7.4%
  6. Harry Kane (England, Bayern Munich) – 4.6%
  7. Vinícius Júnior (Brazil, Real Madrid) – 1.7%
  8. Jude Bellingham (England, Real Madrid) – 1.4%

It is worth noting that L’Équipe released this report before Liverpool’s loss in the English League Cup final against Newcastle on Saturday, where they were defeated 2-1. Salah had little to no impact in that match.

This latest setback could further complicate Salah’s position and reduce his chances of competing for the Ballon d’Or even more.
