Emergency crews in southern Israel responded to a reported hazardous materials leak after an industrial facility in the Negev region was struck by an Iranian missile, prompting precautionary evacuations and shelter-in-place orders.

The incident took place in the industrial zone of Ne’ot Hovav, near Beersheba, where missile fragments reportedly landed between factory sites. Thick black smoke was visible from the area following the strike, according to local media footage and eyewitness accounts.

Fire and rescue teams dispatched specialized hazardous materials units to assess the situation and contain any potential leaks. Officials said crews were working to secure damaged storage tanks, identify the source of the contamination, and monitor air quality levels in the surrounding area.

As a precaution, workers at nearby factories were evacuated, and residents including communities living close to the industrial zone, were instructed to remain indoors, seal windows, and avoid unnecessary exposure until further notice. Several local roads were temporarily closed.

Early reports from Israeli authorities offered mixed assessments. Some statements initially suggested there was no immediate danger from hazardous materials, but later updates indicated a possible release could not be ruled out, requiring ongoing monitoring.

The strike is part of a broader escalation involving Iran and Israel, with missile launches triggering air raid sirens in multiple areas, including regions near Jerusalem. Some projectiles landed in open areas, while others were intercepted by Israeli defense systems.

Israeli police, supported by border units and explosives experts, began search operations across the Negev to locate missile fragments and assess potential risks. No casualties have been reported in connection with the strike on the industrial site.

Environmental teams were dispatched to assist with the response and evaluate any long-term impact. The industrial complex in Ne’ot Hovav hosts chemical and manufacturing facilities, raising concerns about the consequences of direct hits on such infrastructure.

Analysts say attacks on industrial and infrastructure targets mark a dangerous escalation, heightening the risk of environmental damage in addition to the immediate security threat. The incident highlights the growing complexity and stakes of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.
