Egypt Daily News – On Friday, Iran accused Israel and America of being behind the terrorist attacks in Syria, amid reports of heightened security measures at the Russian military base in Syria in light of the existing threat.
Iranian media reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi today condemned attacks by the Syrian terrorist organizations and described them as an American-Israeli “plan” after Israel’s defeat in Lebanon and Palestine. It added that Araqchi confirmed, in a phone call with his Syrian counterpart, Tehran’s support for the Syrian government.
Iran renewed its firm support for its ally, Syria, in light of the large-scale attack in the vicinity of Aleppo in the north of the country, according to what the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement.
The statement said that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi “stressed Iran’s continued support for the government of Syria, its nation, and its army in its struggle against terrorism,” in a phone call he had with his Syrian counterpart, Bassam Al-Sabbagh.
On Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov considered the situation in Aleppo a “violation of Syria’s sovereignty.” He expressed his country’s support for “the Syrian government in restoring order in the region and restoring constitutional order.”
Russian media said that it is clear that the escalation is linked to the efforts of the United States to create an additional point of tension “in order to put pressure on Russia and its interests in the region.
This is an unambiguous connection, because we see the simultaneous efforts of the outgoing administration of US President Joe Biden to escalate the conflict in Ukraine, while creating points of tension for Russian interests in other parts of the world at the same time,” it added.
The General Command of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces announced that armed elements began an attack on November 27, north of the de-escalation zone. The Syrian Military Command indicated that a large number of militants participated in the attack, and attacks were carried out on government forces’ positions in several sectors.
On Friday, terrorist groups bombed Aleppo in northern Syria and became its gates in the context of an attack on government forces, one of the most violent rounds of fighting in years.
The military operations claimed the lives of 255 people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, most of them fighters from both sides of the conflict, including 24 civilians, most of whom died in bombing by Russian aircraft supporting the Syrian army in the battle.
On the other hand, reinforcements from the Syrian army arrived in the city of Aleppo, the second largest city in Syria, according to a Syrian security source.
The battles led to the displacement of more than 14,000 people, nearly half of them children, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
The fighting resulting from the attack is the heaviest in Syria since 2011.
