Israeli forces have advanced into several towns and villages in southern Lebanon while launching strikes on a major Iranian security complex in Tehran, according to multiple official and media reports on the fifth day of escalating regional hostilities.

A source from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) confirmed Wednesday that Israeli troops had moved into a number of locations within the mission’s area of operations in southern Lebanon.

In parallel, the Israel Defense Forces said it carried out a strike on what it described as a large complex housing the headquarters of multiple Iranian security agencies in the Iranian capital.

The developments signal a further widening of the confrontation, which has already seen cross-border fire intensify along the Lebanese frontier.

The Lebanese group Hezbollah said its fighters engaged directly with Israeli forces that had entered a border town, indicating ground clashes in addition to the ongoing air campaign.

Lebanese authorities reported that Israeli strikes on the country have killed at least 72 people since the outbreak of the current round of fighting. Officials also said more than 83,000 people have been displaced by the bombardment.

The escalating exchanges across Lebanon and Iran come amid broader regional tensions, raising concerns among international observers about the risk of a wider conflict spreading across multiple fronts in the Middle East.
