Egypt Daily News – A military source at the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces, stated that Royal Jordanian Air Force aircraft and air defense systems intercepted several missiles and drones that entered Jordanian airspace on Friday morning.
According to Petra News Agency, the source clarified that the Royal Jordanian Air Force is operating with a high level of readiness to protect the skies of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and to maintain the safety and security of the nation and its citizens.
He added that the interception operation came in response to military assessments indicating the likelihood of missiles and drones falling within Jordanian territory, including populated areas, which could have resulted in casualties.
The source stressed that the Jordanian Armed Forces are working around the clock to protect the nation’s borders by land, sea, and air and will not allow any violation of Jordanian airspace under any circumstances. He also urged citizens not to spread rumors or stories that could cause panic and chaos and to rely only on official sources for information.
Earlier, the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission announced the temporary suspension of air traffic in Jordan’s airspace for all incoming, outgoing, and transiting flights, due to the ongoing military escalation between Iran and Israel.
This decision comes amid expectations of retaliatory attacks following a large-scale Israeli airstrike early Friday morning that targeted nuclear and military sites in Tehran, resulting in the deaths of senior commanders and nuclear scientists.
Iran’s Fars News Agency reported the deaths of Major General Hossein Salami, commander of the Revolutionary Guard, and Major General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of the General Staff, along with nuclear scientists such as Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, Fereydoon Abbasi-Davani, and Ahmad Reza Zolfaghari.
Iran also announced the appointment of Major General Ahmad Vahidi as the new commander of the Revolutionary Guard and Admiral Habibollah Sayyari as the interim chief of staff, in an effort to reorganize military leadership amid the state of emergency.
Israel’s Kan public broadcaster confirmed that the operation, called “Operation Rising Lion,” targeted 10 nuclear scientists and military commanders, describing it as “only the beginning.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the attack targeted “the heart of Iran’s nuclear program,” including the Natanz facility, and warned that operations would continue “as needed.”
In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei vowed “harsh punishment,” while Armed Forces spokesman Abolfazl Shekarchi announced a “decisive” retaliation.
