Egypt Daily News – The Kremlin said on Monday that President Vladimir Putin is defending Russia, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s criticism of recent Russian attacks on Ukraine and his accusation that the Russian leader has “gone crazy.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a press conference, “President Putin is making the necessary decisions to ensure the security of our country,” pointing out that the Russian strikes are a response to Ukrainian attacks.

When asked about Trump’s comments regarding Putin, Peskov said, “We are truly grateful to the Americans and to President Trump personally for their help in organizing and launching this negotiation process.”

He added, “Of course, at the same time, this is a very critical moment, which is naturally tied to an excessive emotional burden on absolutely everyone and to emotional reactions.” Peskov also told reporters, in response to a question about whether the draft of the Russian settlement memorandum had been delivered to Kyiv, “The draft of the Russian memorandum has not yet been delivered. Work is ongoing. This is a serious project, a serious draft document that requires careful verification and preparation.”

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 355 drones at Ukraine on Sunday night into Monday, a record number since the invasion began in February 2022 in an intensification of the bombardment that the Ukrainian president condemned as going unpunished by Moscow.

For the third consecutive night, Ukraine was subjected to heavy Russian shelling, while the two neighboring countries conducted a large-scale prisoner exchange over the weekend.

The Russian missiles damaged five sites and debris fell in ten locations, according to the same source. In recent days, the Russian military has intensified its aerial attacks on Ukraine.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump had described his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin as “crazy” due to the ongoing attacks on Ukrainian cities, warning that any attempt to seize all of Ukraine “would lead to Russia’s downfall.”
