Egypt Daily News – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed his country’s willingness to engage in a straightforward dialogue with the United States if Washington initiates such talks.
This remark was made during a meeting with Kazakh Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu in Astana. Lavrov emphasized that Russia did not sever ties with the U.S. and stated that it is not Russia’s responsibility to propose resuming relations.
However, he indicated that if the U.S. presents an initiative for honest discussions without unilateral demands, Russia would respond positively.
Additionally, Lavrov mentioned that Kazakhstan has received an invitation to join the BRICS group (which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) as a partner country.
He expressed hope that this development would enhance discussions on significant global issues amid the ongoing changes in the geopolitical landscape.
Furthermore, it was noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit Kazakhstan on November 27 for an official visit, highlighting the strategic competition in the region among Russian, Chinese, Turkish, and Western influences.
