USS MOUNT WHITNEY arrives in Libya

Egypt Daily News – A number of Libyan political and military leaders in Tripoli met today, Sunday, with the American delegation that visited the capital aboard the Sixth Fleet’s ship, the USS Mount Whitney.

The “Al-Wasat” news portal confirmed on Sunday evening that the Libyan leaders met with the American delegation aboard the ship, which docked at the port of Tripoli. The U.S. delegation included Commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, Vice Admiral J.T. Anderson, U.S. Special Envoy to Libya Ambassador Richard Norland, and Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt.

From the Libyan side, participants included Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Mohamed Al-Haddad, Presidential Council member Abdullah Al-Lafi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Taher Al-Baour, Deputy Minister of Defense Abdulsalam Al-Zoubi, National Security Adviser to Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, and President of the Audit Bureau Khaled Shakshak.

The U.S. Embassy in Libya stated that the meeting with Libyan officials focused on ways to strengthen military relations between the United States and Libya, and to support Libyan efforts aimed at achieving military integration.

It clarified that “the meeting comes as part of the United States’ affirmation of its commitment to a strong partnership with the Libyan people in the areas of security, economy, and politics, in support of stability and prosperity in Libya.”

Meanwhile, the Libyan political leaders toured the American ship to get acquainted with its components.
