James Quinlan – Liverpool
Saudi clubs are not actively pursuing Mohamed Salah amid his contract uncertainty at Liverpool.
Amidst the celebrations of an impressive comeback against Southampton on Sunday and preparation for a big Champions League match with Real Madrid on Wednesday, Salah’s contract dilemma has taken center stage in the soccer world.
The Egyptian forward, whose contract expires at the end of the season, made no bones about his situation, revealing a lack of offers from the club. “Well, we are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club, [so] I’m probably more out than in,” he admitted.
Salah remains committed to Liverpool for the time being, stating: “I’m just trying to enjoy my football and I will play at the top level as long as possible. I’m just doing my best because this is who I am and I try to give it all for myself and for the club. We will see what happens next.”
As contract talks persist, there’s speculation aplenty about his potential next move if he and Liverpool part ways. Notably, the prospect of heading to the Saudi Pro League is a hot topic after Liverpool rejected a bid from Al-Ittihad on transfer deadline day in summer 2023. Despite the buzz in the Gulf state, Sky Sports now reports a shift – Saudi Pro League clubs’ pursuit of Liverpool’s No. 11 has cooled off.
There’s still interest, yet the ball is currently in the court of the player and his representatives who must signal any desire for the switch. Meanwhile, Salah seems focused on Liverpool, aiming for brighter horizons with the Reds.
“You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this,” said Salah on Sunday. “But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.”
Salah reaffirmed his bond with supporters, conceding that matters of his contract are outside his or their control: “I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”
Focused on the present, his aspirations are clear: “I’m not going to retire soon so I’m just playing, focusing on the season and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well.”
