Egypt Daily News – French President Emmanuel Macron, during a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday, called for “distancing” Hamas and “reforming” the Palestinian Authority.
Macron wrote in a post on X: “France is ready to help secure the release of all hostages, restore a lasting ceasefire, and ensure immediate humanitarian access to Gaza.” He continued: “It is essential to build a framework for the day after, which includes disarming and excluding Hamas, and establishing credible governance and reforming the Palestinian Authority.”
He added: “This would enable progress toward a political solution based on two states, in preparation for the conference scheduled to be held in June, in the service of peace and security for all.”
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron had announced that France may recognize an independent Palestinian state by next June.
Macron said in an interview: “I want to move toward recognizing the Palestinian state, and I will not do it to please this or that party, but because it would be fair, and because I want to contribute to momentum.”
