Egypt Daily News – Reports have revealed that Argentine star Lionel Messi, currently playing for Inter Miami, is considering a return to Barcelona next summer, as he wishes to play in his former club’s new stadium after its reopening.
Messi’s contract with Inter Miami runs until the end of 2025, following his free transfer to the club after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired in the summer of 2023.
Alex Candal from DIRECTV Sports reported that Messi will wear Barcelona’s jersey again starting next season, bringing his time at Inter Miami to an end.
The report, which has been cited by several global media outlets, stated that Messi’s desire is to play at Camp Nou after its renovation, even though the stadium is not yet ready for reopening.
Although the terms of his return remain uncertain, reports indicate that Messi intends to play one final season in Europe before focusing on his preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
It is worth noting that Alex Candal was the first to break the news of Messi’s move to Inter Miami when he announced it in May 2022, before the player officially joined the American club in the summer of 2023.
Messi left an unforgettable mark in Barcelona’s history, scoring 672 goals and providing 303 assists before his unexpected departure to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. He later joined Inter Miami, stating that certain individuals in Barcelona’s management did not want him to return— the same people who forced him out two years ago in an event that caused him and his family a “wound” that has yet to heal.
The Argentine star has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to Barcelona and live there after his time with Inter Miami. He previously stated, “We feel like we are from Barcelona; we always think about the day we can live there again.”
