Minister of Housing: Historical Qaitbay building to be transformed into a hotel

Egypt Daily News – Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, reviewed the efforts of the state, represented by the Ministry of Housing, to revive historical and valuable areas, and implement the projects of the presidential initiative “A Decent Life” to develop the Egyptian countryside, in which the Ministry of Housing participates in implementing its projects alongside the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

He said in his speech at the plenary session of the House of Representatives: Under the slogan of reviving the historic heart of Cairo, the Ministry has adopted several projects to revive Islamic and Fatimid Cairo in Cairo Governorate, and the project to restore and rehabilitate Zainab Khatoun’s house, located in the heart of Old Cairo, has already been completed.

A wonderful collection of Islamic antiquities. The construction of the house dates back to the fourth century AH and the tenth century AD. He added: The Qaitbay Housing is being transformed into an antique hotel as one of the most beautiful examples of Islamic agencies that characterized architecture in the Mamluk era.

It is located on Bab al-Nasr Street in Al-Gamaleya and was built by King Al-Ashraf Abu Al-Nasr Qaitbay. transformation work is being carried out through the restoration of the external and internal facades under the supervision of the Ministry of Antiquities.
