Egypt Daily News – President Abdul Latif Rashid, President of the Republic of Iraq, received Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, during the activities of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum. Fuad Hussein, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, and Engineer Hassan Al-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, participated in the meeting.
Dr. Rania Al-Mashat expressed the appreciation of the Egyptian government and people for the fraternal relations with the State of Iraq, and directed the political leadership to strengthen relations at various levels between the two countries, in order to advance joint development efforts.
Activating the joint Egyptian-Iraqi committee
The meeting witnessed a discussion about the third session of the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee, which the two countries succeeded in activating after decades of cessation, so that the first and second sessions will be held during the years 2020 and 2023.
The two sessions witnessed major developments at the level of the signed protocols, especially at the level of enhancing the contribution of Egyptian companies to the reconstruction efforts of Iraq, in addition to developing small and medium enterprises, enhancing trade exchange, cooperation in the field of tourism, and other fields.
Mechanisms to facilitate trade and the flow of goods
The Minister stressed the importance of moving forward in taking advantage of the various opportunities available for international cooperation between the two sister countries, and the necessity of facilitating trade and the flow of goods and enhancing cooperation in various fields that witness mutual interest on both sides, in a way that increases the volume of joint cooperation to reflect the size of the two countries’ economies and benefit from export opportunities. Efforts to increase investments were also discussed, Al-Mashat pointed to the expected role of Egyptian companies at the governmental and private levels to participate in Iraq’s reconstruction projects, and implement all infrastructure projects based on their accumulated experience in this field, to transfer them to the brothers in the State of Iraq in Framework for reconstruction plans.
