Egypt Daily News – Egyptian parliamentarian and media personality Mostafa Bakry said that Cairo was offered a huge sum of money, in addition to exempting Egypt from its entire debt and resolving the Renaissance Dam crisis, in exchange for agreeing to the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
“US President Donald Trump offered his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi an offer of $250 billion in exchange for agreeing to the displacement of the Palestinians from Gaza, in addition to resolving the Renaissance Dam crisis in a way that preserves Egypt’s water rights,” Bakry said on Thursday night on his ‘Facts and Secrets’ program on Sada al-Balad TV.
He continued: “President Sisi stuck to his positions and insisted on rejecting the displacement and liquidation of the Palestinian cause,” he said, stressing that Egypt insists on establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He questioned the extreme divergence in the positions of Cairo and Washington: “Are we going to go to war with Israel? Is America going to cut economic ties with Egypt and impose an economic blockade and so on?” He referred to US reports that Egypt is prepared to take military action to counter any forced displacement to Sinai.
In recent days, the US president has repeatedly called on Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, which he has said must be depopulated for reconstruction, something the two countries have firmly rejected.
President El Sisi had a phone conversation with Trump earlier this week that saw the two presidents have a “positive dialog” including on the importance of continuing to implement the first and second phase of the ceasefire agreement, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.
The call emphasized the importance of stabilizing the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which was brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the US, and the need to intensify the delivery of aid to the people of Gaza, according to the statement.
