Egypt Daily News – The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Monday, mourning the death of El Araby, saying that he was “one of the pillars of Egyptian diplomacy and its shining symbols throughout the ages.”

The statement added: “History will remain a witness to the great national role he played in the saga of international arbitration to restore the precious land of Taba to Egyptian sovereignty, and other issues that the former minister addressed with a higher goal that he did not deviate from, which is achieving and defending Egyptian interests, setting an example for generations.

” Some of the diplomats had a model, a role model, and a beacon that illuminated their path so that they could follow in his footsteps and follow in his path.”

El Araby, born in 1955, headed the Egyptian negotiating delegation regarding the Taba dispute with Israel in the 1980s. He also served as a judge at the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.

After the “January Uprising” that overthrew former President Hosni Mubarak, El Araby assumed the position of Foreign Minister, before becoming Secretary-General of the Arab League in May 2011 until mid-2016.

Egypt Daily News sends its deepest condolences to his family.
