National Bank of Egypt announces the suspension of annual platinum certificates with a 27% return

Egypt Daily News – The National Bank of Egypt’s (NBE) ALECO committee has decided to halt the issuance of all annual platinum certificates, which previously offered a 27% return, and to reduce the return on all three-year platinum certificates by 2%, according to Mohamed El-Etreby, CEO of the National Bank of Egypt.

The changes will be effective from Sunday, April 27, 2025, across all bank branches and electronic applications.

Al-Atrabi added that the return on the variable-return platinum certificate has been changed to 2.25%.

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Egypt announced, during its meeting held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, a reduction in the credit and discount rate by 225 basis points to 25.50, effective Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
