Egypt Daily News – On Tuesday evening, the Pakistani military spokesperson announced that the cities of Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad had come under an Indian missile attack targeting a power station. The spokesperson, Major General Ahmed Sharif, stated: “Missiles were launched at us from the east, targeting the power station in Muzaffarabad and Bahawalpur.
India has attacked us with three missiles striking Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.”
He emphasized that “India will now receive a comprehensive and firm response.”
Meanwhile, the Indian army confirmed it had carried out a precision strike on what it described as terrorist camps inside Pakistan. The Indian government announced the launch of a military operation named “Sindoor,” targeting nine locations associated with terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
According to an official statement, the operation was conducted in a focused and deliberate manner, avoiding any Pakistani military installations, and was described as a “non-escalatory” action reflecting restraint in both target selection and execution.
Indian authorities reiterated their commitment to holding those responsible for the recent attack accountable and noted that a detailed press briefing on Operation Sindoor would be held later in the day.
Earlier, Reuters reported multiple loud explosions near the mountainous areas surrounding Muzaffarabad in Pakistani-administered Kashmir. Witnesses said they heard several powerful blasts shortly after midnight local time and noted that electricity in the city was cut off afterward. The cause of the explosions was not immediately clarified.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have escalated since a deadly militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which left 26 people dead. India accused Pakistan of involvement in the assault.
Pakistan firmly rejected India’s allegations, with its Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, calling the claims “baseless and politically motivated.” He stressed that Islamabad would respond to “any aggression” and warned of a “serious risk” of escalation.
He also called on members of the UN Security Council, particularly its five permanent members, to take responsibility in resolving the crisis and working toward a solution on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The Indian army announces it has carried out a “precision strike” in Pakistan
The Indian army stated in a press release: “Our armed forces launched a strike targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, from where terrorist attacks against India were being planned and directed. A total of nine sites were targeted.” The statement added: “Our actions were marked by precision, restraint, and non-escalation. No Pakistani military installations were targeted.”
The Indian army emphasized that the country had “shown significant restraint in both target selection and execution.”
It noted that the operation was carried out “in response to the brutal terrorist attack that killed 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen,” and affirmed: “We remain committed to holding those responsible for this attack accountable.”
Loud explosions were reportedly heard in Pakistan-administered Kashmir following the strikes.
