Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli

Egypt Daily News – PM Madbouly replied to a question about the tax that was announced on mobile phones, and the reactions it provoked, by pointing out that any device entering the country is subject to taxes and fees paid to the state, and the volume of smuggled devices that enter the country is a very large number. Countries resort to these measures to control the market and encourage the local industry to grow.

He added that there are 5 international companies that have opened factories to produce mobile phones in Egypt, and the goal of this decision is to prevent anything that affects those industries, and to encourage the local industry to have competitive ability, adding that the Egyptian market’s needs are great for these devices, and therefore the local industry must be encouraged.

He stressed that for Egyptians abroad, they will not pay anything, because they reside abroad, but the decision targets those who used to bring devices from abroad, and any device that existed before the implementation of the decision will not be subject to any procedures, but we target the devices starting from the timing of the implementation of the decision, and they will be granted a period of time to reconcile the situation, and after this period the state will be entitled to receive the due fees, like all countries of the world.
