Egypt Daily News – A new poll found that the majority of participants, residents of Greenland, supported joining the United States, according to what was reported by “The Hill” website.
According to a poll conducted by the Patriot Polling Foundation on Sunday, 57.3% of participants agree with Greenland becoming part of the United States, while only 37.4% opposed the potential accession process, and 5.3% “undecided” about this step.
The poll indicated that this is the first time that the group has conducted an opinion poll outside the United States. It was also made during a visit by Donald Trump Jr., the president-elect’s son.
Trump has repeatedly announced his interest in acquiring the island, which is located between the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean, and has an autonomous administrative division within the Kingdom of Denmark.
He also recently refused to rule out military action to acquire the island of Greenland and the Panama Canal, and said, “I can say this: we need them for economic security,” adding: “I will not announce my commitment not to take military action. We may have to do something.”
It is noteworthy that Greenland, with a population of only 57 thousand people, belongs to Denmark but enjoys self-rule. It also stores a wealth of minerals, oil and natural gas, but its slow development has made its economy dependent on fishing and annual subsidies from Denmark.
