Egypt Daily News – The Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope Tawadros is preparing to begin Holy Week, one of the holiest days in the Coptic calendar, during which Copts commemorate the last days of the Lord Jesus Christ on Earth, as well as the sufferings He endured, concluding with the celebration of the glorious Feast of the Resurrection.
Pope Tawadros II intensifies his activities during these sacred days, from Holy Week to the Feast of the Resurrection. It is scheduled that Pope Tawadros II will preside over the Palm Sunday Mass at the Saint Mark Cathedral in Alexandria, as well as the General Funeral Prayers in Alexandria. After the Palm Sunday Mass, he will spend his retreat in the monastery, as is customary for the patriarchs during Holy Week.
The Coptic Orthodox Patriarch will also lead the Maundy Thursday Mass at the miraculous Saint Mena Monastery in Mariout Desert, where the foot-washing ritual will be performed.
On Good Friday, the Pope will head to the Saint Mark Cathedral in Abbassia to preside over its services, which start in the morning and continue until around 6 or 5 PM, making it one of the longest services in the Church according to the liturgical tradition.
The week will conclude with the celebration of the glorious Feast of the Resurrection, where Pope Tawadros II will preside over the Easter Mass on the evening of Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the Saint Mark Cathedral in Abbassia. The service will be attended by several bishops and archbishops of the Church, as well as public figures, officials, and Copts, and will continue into the early hours of Sunday, April 20, coinciding with the Feast of the Resurrection.
