Egypt Daily News – President El-Sisi, during a phone call he received today from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, reaffirmed Egypt’s full commitment to preserving the unique and sacred religious status of the Saint Catherine Monastery, and not compromising it. He pointed out that this commitment was reflected in the recent judicial ruling that reinforced this status and aligned with the state’s keenness to respect the sanctity of religious and church sites and to affirm the monastery’s heritage and spiritual value.
The official spokesperson for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, explained that the call also included both sides reaffirming their shared interest in strengthening the strategic relations between Egypt and Greece and advancing them to broader horizons, in a way that reflects their historical nature and serves the interests of the two friendly peoples.
This reaffirmation follows the Presidential spokesperson’s announcement yesterday that the Presidency reiterates its commitment to preserving the sanctity of Saint Catherine Monastery, noting that the recent court ruling strengthens this status and aligns with what President El-Sisi emphasized during his visit to Athens on May 7.
The statement also stressed the importance of safeguarding the close and fraternal relations between the Egyptian and Greek peoples and not compromising them.
