Cairo is preparing to host one of the most anticipated cultural events of the decade the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) set for November 1. According to Egyptian government spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany, the ceremony is expected to attract an unprecedented gathering of global leaders, reflecting the international importance of the occasion and Egypt’s enduring cultural influence.

In a televised interview on Tuesday evening, El-Homsany revealed that more than 40 heads of state, kings, and prime ministers are expected to attend the opening ceremony, alongside senior ministers and dignitaries from across the world. He emphasized that the event will be organized at the highest level of professionalism, with meticulous coordination between all state agencies.

“The United Media Services company is exerting tremendous efforts in cooperation with various state institutions to ensure that the opening reflects the greatness of Egypt and the splendor of its ancient civilization,” El-Homsany said.

Preparations are reportedly in full swing, both inside the museum and throughout the surrounding Giza Plateau. Authorities are implementing new traffic routes to facilitate access for guests and visitors, while final rehearsals and logistical arrangements are being completed ahead of the high-profile event.

Officials have hinted that the ceremony’s grandeur will surpass even the celebrated Royal Mummies Parade of 2021, which captivated global audiences as ancient Egyptian kings and queens were transported in a spectacular procession through Cairo.

A Monumental Museum for an Ancient Civilization

The Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the Giza Pyramids, is the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization. Designed to blend cutting-edge architecture with the timeless legacy of ancient Egypt, the museum is expected to become a global landmark for history, culture, and tourism.

Among its vast collection are tens of thousands of artifacts, including the complete treasures of the boy-king Tutankhamun, which will be displayed in their entirety for the first time. Visitors will also experience immersive exhibits showcasing the evolution of ancient Egyptian art, religion, and daily life.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced earlier this month that the museum would temporarily close from October 15 to November 4, 2025, to allow for final preparations ahead of the opening.

The inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum marks not only a milestone in Egypt’s cultural heritage but also a powerful symbol of the country’s role as a guardian of human history a bridge connecting the glories of the past with the aspirations of the present.
