President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday urged U.S. President Donald Trump to continue backing Egypt’s Gaza plan and to personally oversee the Gaza file through to its full implementation, stressing that the war would not have ended without Trump’s involvement.

President El-Sisi made the remarks during a meeting with Trump on the sidelines of the 56th annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, which runs from January 19 to 23. The talks came amid intensified diplomatic efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and advance arrangements for post-war stabilization.

According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s ongoing role in ensuring the success of the plan aimed at ending Israel’s war on Gaza and supporting broader regional and international stability. He underscored the importance of sustained U.S. engagement to guarantee that agreed steps move beyond the ceasefire phase toward lasting security and humanitarian relief.

Egypt has positioned its Gaza initiative as a comprehensive framework that includes maintaining the ceasefire, facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid, supporting early recovery and reconstruction, and laying the groundwork for longer-term governance and security arrangements in the enclave. Cairo has argued that continued international oversight, particularly from Washington, is essential to prevent a relapse into violence.

President El-Sisi’s comments reflected Egypt’s view that U.S. political weight was decisive in securing an end to hostilities and remains critical to translating agreements into durable outcomes on the ground. The meeting also highlighted the close coordination between Cairo and Washington on regional crises, as Egypt seeks to reinforce its role as a key mediator and stabilizing actor in the Middle East.

The Gaza discussions formed part of broader talks between the two leaders on regional security challenges during the Davos forum, which this year has placed strong emphasis on conflict resolution, diplomacy, and rebuilding trust amid mounting geopolitical tensions.
