President El-Sisi: Djibouti holds a very special place in the heart of every Egyptian

Egypt Daily News – President El-Sisi expressed his great pleasure at meeting Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh in the capital, Djibouti. During a press conference, he said he was happy to make his second visit to Djibouti, a country that holds a very special place in the heart of every Egyptian.

The President continued: “I affirm my gratitude and appreciation to our sister nation, Djibouti, for the genuine warmth and hospitality we experienced during this visit, which made me feel as if I were in my own country, among my people and brothers.”

He noted that he came to Djibouti carrying a message from the Egyptian people, expressing pride in the historic ties and the strategic partnership between the two countries.

He added: “I must also take this opportunity to congratulate Djibouti, both its leadership and its people, on the well-deserved diplomatic success of Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf being elected as Chairperson of the African Union Commission. I wish him all the best in this noble mission.”

President El-Sisi met today with President Guelleh at the Djiboutian Presidential Palace, where an official reception ceremony was held.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the meeting included a one-on-one session followed by expanded talks with the delegations of both countries, ending with a luncheon hosted by the Djiboutian president in honor of President El-Sisi.

The two presidents witnessed the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding. President El-Sisi and his Djiboutian counterpart affirmed the unified Arab stance on the necessity of reaching a sustainable resolution to the Palestinian issue. President El-Sisi stated: “Our talks with President Guelleh addressed the Palestinian cause.” He added: “We reaffirmed the firm Arab position that a sustainable resolution must be reached, based on the two-state solution, and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. We firmly reject any forced displacement of Palestinians from their land under any pretext, and we are ready to cooperate with all international partners to implement the Arab-Islamic plan for Gaza’s reconstruction.”

President El-Sisi concluded his speech by saying: “In conclusion, I once again express my deep thanks and appreciation to Your Excellency and the dear people of Djibouti for your generous hospitality and warm welcome. Egypt cherishes its strong and strategic ties with your brotherly nation, and I look forward to continuing our meetings and brotherly consultations in a way that fulfills the aspirations of our two peoples.”

This came during a speech delivered by President El-Sisi on Wednesday at a joint press conference at the Djiboutian Presidential Palace, alongside President Ismail Omar Guelleh, where they reviewed the key points discussed in their talks.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with President Ismail Omar Guelleh at the Djiboutian Presidential Palace, where official reception ceremonies were held.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the meeting included both bilateral and expanded discussions, followed by a luncheon in honor of the Egyptian President. The two presidents then held a joint press conference, reviewing the outcomes of their discussions.

President El-Sisi expressed his great happiness in meeting his brother, President Guelleh, on his second visit to Djibouti, a cherished country that holds a special place in the heart of every Egyptian.

In his speech, President El-Sisi expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the sister nation of Djibouti for the warmth and sincerity shown during the visit, saying: “It made me feel as if I were in my own homeland, among my family and brothers.”

He added: “Today, I have come carrying a message from the Egyptian people, expressing our pride in the historical ties and the strategic partnership that bind Egypt and Djibouti.”

President El-Sisi congratulated Djibouti, its leadership and people, on the diplomatic achievement of Mahmoud Ali Youssouf’s election as Chairperson of the African Union Commission, wishing him success in his important role.

President El-Sisi stated that he held intensive discussions with his brother President Guelleh, during which they explored bilateral cooperation in various priority sectors for both nations. They agreed to launch an ambitious joint program to ensure energy security in Djibouti, which includes projects to upgrade the national electricity grid, officially inaugurate a solar power plant in the village of “Omar Jagaa” in the coming days, and develop solar and wind energy plants in various areas across Djibouti.

President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s commitment to sharing its expertise with Djibouti to help achieve energy security.

They also agreed on the importance of encouraging investments between the two countries, particularly in ports and free zones.

President El-Sisi mentioned discussions on implementing joint projects between Egyptian and Djiboutian public and private sectors, including setting up a logistics center for Egyptian companies in Djibouti’s free zone, expanding the container port at Doraleh, and ongoing studies to construct roads linking Djibouti Port with the national and regional road networks to enhance trade flow.

They also agreed on the need to strengthen economic and trade relations through practical steps.

President El-Sisi announced the establishment of the “Egypt-Djibouti Joint Business Council,” and they agreed to launch the headquarters of the “Misr-Djibouti Bank” in the coming days. They also directed the review of previous agreements related to the development and protection of investments between the two countries.

Ladies and gentlemen,
First of all, I would like to express my great pleasure at meeting my brother, His Excellency President Guelleh, on my second visit to Djibouti, this dear country, which holds a special place in the hearts of every Egyptian.

I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the sisterly state of Djibouti for the warm and sincere welcome we have received during this visit, which makes me feel at home, among my family and brothers.

I come today, carrying a message from the Egyptian people of pride in the historical ties and strategic partnership between Egypt and Djibouti.

I cannot miss the opportunity to congratulate Djibouti, its leadership and people, on the well-deserved diplomatic success achieved by Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf as Chairperson of the African Union Commission, wishing him every success in his noble mission.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I held extensive discussions with my brother, His Excellency President Guelleh, during which we discussed areas of bilateral cooperation in various priority sectors for our two brotherly countries. In this context, we agreed to launch an ambitious and joint program to achieve energy security in Djibouti. This program includes several projects related to the rehabilitation of the national electricity grid, the solar power plant project in the village of Omar Jakka, which is scheduled to be officially inaugurated within days, and the construction and expansion of solar and wind power plants in various regions of Djibouti. In this regard, I emphasized to my brother, His Excellency President Guelleh, Egypt’s commitment to transferring its distinguished expertise to our brothers in Djibouti  in order to achieve energy security for this brotherly country.

We also agreed on the importance of encouraging investments between the two countries, especially in the field of ports and free zones. I discussed with my brother, His Excellency President Guelleh, the implementation of projects in partnership between the Egyptian and Djiboutian public and private sectors, such as establishing a logistics center for Egyptian companies in the free zone in Djibouti, in addition to the project to expand the container port in Doraleh, and the ongoing studies to build roads to connect the port of Djibouti to the road network in Djibouti and in the region, in a way that enhances the movement of land trade.

I also agreed with my brother, His Excellency the President, on the necessity of strengthening bilateral economic and trade relations over the coming period through serious and practical steps. In this context, I am pleased to announce the establishment of the “Egyptian-Djibouti Joint Business Council.” We also agreed to inaugurate the headquarters of the “Egypt-Djibouti” Bank within the coming days, and we directed the review of previous treaty frameworks related to the development and protection of investments between the two countries.

We also agreed to build on existing cooperation in capacity building and the training of national cadres. We also discussed opportunities for existing cooperation in the health and pharmaceutical sectors. Today, we witnessed the signing of several memoranda of understanding to enhance joint cooperation in the fields of higher education, youth and sports, and media. We believe that there are still broader prospects for cooperation between the two countries.

Ladies and gentlemen,
I also discussed extensively with my brother, His Excellency President Guelleh, the current situation in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. In this regard, we emphasized the need to support all efforts to bolster the pillars of security and stability in our brotherly country, and to preserve its unity, integrity, and territorial integrity.

We also affirmed our rejection of any attempts to threaten the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of our brotherly Sudan, including any efforts to form a parallel government. We also emphasized the need to preserve the state’s national institutions and enhance the flow of humanitarian aid to all regions.

We also discussed the common challenges facing our two countries in the Red Sea, stressing our rejection of threats to the security and freedom of navigation in this vital international trade artery and the need to adhere to the principles and foundations of regional security.

We agreed on the exclusive responsibility of the states bordering the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden to govern and secure this important international shipping lane.

Our discussions also addressed the Palestinian issue, where we affirmed the firm Arab position on the inevitability of reaching a sustainable settlement of the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. We also completely reject the displacement of Palestinians from their land under any pretext, while expressing our readiness to cooperate with all international partners to implement the Arab-Islamic plan for the reconstruction of Gaza.

My brother, Your Excellency the President,
in conclusion, I renew my sincere thanks and appreciation to Your Excellency and to the dear people of Djibouti for their generous hospitality and warm welcome. I affirm Egypt’s deep pride in the fraternal and strategic relations with your sister country, and I look forward to continuing our fraternal meetings and consultations to achieve the aspirations of our two brotherly peoples.
