My dear brother, Your Excellency President Azali Assoumani, President of the Union of the Comoros,

Honorable ladies and gentlemen,

At the outset, I would like to welcome His Excellency President Azali Assoumani to his second home, Egypt, wishing him a pleasant stay and a successful visit.

I would also like to emphasize our deep appreciation for the historical fraternal relations that bind Egypt and the Comoros, as well as the shared Arab, African, and Islamic identity between the two countries, which represents a strong foundation to build upon in order to enhance the enduring cooperation in various fields.

We concurred on the necessity of diligently working to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, and trade to be commensurate with the strong ties between the peoples of the two countries and be consistent with the available prospects of cooperation.

I confirmed the readiness of the Egyptian government and companies to promote development plans in the Comoros, particularly the Comoros Emergent Plan 2030 and to transfer the Egyptian expertise gained, from the implementation of development plans in Egypt, and the implementation of projects in African countries, across various economic fields and sectors.

I also affirmed to His Excellency the President Egypt’s full readiness to collaborate with the Union of the Comoros in various fields, especially health, education, tourism, fisheries, energy, and infrastructure.

We agreed that it was essential to elevate the rates of trade between the two countries, particularly in light of the membership of Egypt and the Comoros in the COMESA bloc, to achieve the goals of continental regional integration and to leverage intra-African trade.

Ladies and gentlemen,

My consultations with His Excellency the President reflected a convergence of views regarding regional and international issues of common interest, most notably African Union matters, the situation in the Gaza Strip and Sudan, as well as developments in the Horn of Africa, Red Sea security and the fight against terrorism. We reiterated the importance of the role assigned to the Sahel and Sahara community in counter-terrorism efforts.

Discussions also encompassed topics pertinent to developmental challenges, overcoming poverty, alleviating the burden of debt, and confronting the effects of climate change.

We acknowledged that it was crucial to maintain unified African stances regarding various issues, and to work on ensuring just representation for Africa in international institutions.

Your Excellency President Azali Assoumani,

I was pleased to meet with you today and to reaffirm Egypt’s commitment to deepening the partnership with the Union of the Comoros for the benefit of our two countries, our peoples and our African continent.
