The Presidency
Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that the call reviewed Egypt’s efforts to underpin the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip, with the aim of alleviating the humanitarian crisis faced by its people.
The two sides emphasized the importance of the central role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), as well as the need for the international community to coordinate efforts to support and empower the Agency to carry out its tasks in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.
President El-Sisi and the UN Secretary-General affirmed the necessity of expediting the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip to restore normal life in it. Both parties reiterated the rejection of any attempt to evacuate Gaza of its Palestinian inhabitants and any efforts to displace them.
They also confirmed the need for the international community to join forces to ensure that the Palestinians remain in their land. The two sides stressed the importance of the two-state solution, with the establishment of a Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the guiding principle for international efforts at this stage. This solution is considered the only way to achieve sustainable peace and desired stability in the Middle East.
The call also touched on developments in Lebanon. Both parties underscored the importance of underpinning the ceasefire to restore stability in the country. They also discussed the situation in Syria, Sudan, Libya, and Somalia. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to see the stability, unity, and territorial integrity of these brotherly countries.
