Sisi arrives in Asmara

Egypt Daily News – President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has arrived in Asmara, Eritrea, to participate in a tripartite summit alongside Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud.

The summit focuses on enhancing cooperation among the three countries, particularly in the context of regional security and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened diplomatic tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia, as well as strained relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

President El-Sisi’s delegation includes key officials such as the Minister of National Security, the Chief of the Presidential Cabinet, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, all of whom were warmly received by President Afwerki upon their arrival at Asmara’s International Airport.

Throughout the visit, discussions are expected to amplify bilateral ties and address security challenges in the region.

Sources indicate that the summit will likely result in the signing of a significant agreement aimed at intelligence sharing and military cooperation, which would help secure essential trade routes across the Red Sea.

The Egyptian presidency has emphasized the intention to strengthen relations in various fields while promoting stability and security in the region.

Notably, it has reportedly communicated Egypt’s firm stance against any Ethiopian military presence in the Red Sea, signaling Egypt’s commitment to protecting its strategic interests in the area.
