Egypt Daily News – President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi cautioned against the potential regional expansion of the ongoing conflict in Gaza during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in El Alamein.
President Sisi emphasized the urgent need to end hostilities and urged a return to dialogue, peace, and diplomacy, highlighting the severe implications of escalating the conflict.
Secretary Blinken indicated that Israel had agreed to a proposal aimed at bridging the differences that hinder a ceasefire and the release of hostages held by Hamas.
He called on Hamas to also accept the terms but did not clarify if the proposal adequately addressed Hamas’s concerns and noted that even if Hamas agrees, negotiators will need to finalize specific understandings for implementing the agreement, pointing out the complexities and difficult decisions that remain for leaders involved in the discussions.
Following his meetings in Israel, Blinken’s diplomatic efforts are set to continue in Egypt and Qatar.
His visit comes amid renewed hopes for a resolution and anxiety over the possibility of a broader regional conflict, especially in light of recent violent incidents involving Hezbollah and Hamas leadership, which have been attributed to Israel.
