Egypt Daily News – Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that he is open to holding discussions with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, on some issues, including the war in Ukraine and energy prices. Putin stressed his agreement with Trump that it was possible to avoid the Ukraine war if Trump had not been deprived of his victory in the previous elections in 2020, describing his relationship with US President Donald Trump as a relationship based on trust and pragmatism.
At the end of his visit to Moscow State University, Putin said: “We saw the statements of the current president (the President of the United States) regarding readiness for joint action, we are always open to this matter.”
The Russian President indicated to a local television reporter that the issue of negotiating with Ukraine is complicated because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree preventing him from holding talks with Putin.
“We’re waiting for the signals”
The Kremlin said earlier today, Friday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “ready” to talk with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, and is awaiting “signs” from Washington.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, “Putin is ready. We are waiting for signals” from the United States. He rejected what Trump said that the conflict in Ukraine could be ended by reducing Russian oil prices, stressing, “This conflict is not dependent on oil prices.”
The Kremlin also called on the United States to begin nuclear disarmament negotiations “as soon as possible,” days after Donald Trump assumed the US presidency.
