Russia declare a state of emergency in Lipetsk after a Ukrainian drones attack

Egypt Daily News – The situation in the Lipetsk region of southwestern Russia has escalated following a significant drone attack, which local authorities believe to be from Ukraine.

The attack targeted a military airport near Lipetsk city, resulting in substantial explosions and a fire. In response, Igor Artamonov, the Governor of Lipetsk, announced the evacuation of four nearby villages and several towns, highlighting the seriousness of the incident.

As of early Friday morning, reports indicated that six people had sustained injuries due to the attack, prompting a halt to public transportation in the city of Lipetsk, which has a population of approximately 500,000.

Additionally, the Russian authorities reported intercepting 29 drones in the neighboring Belgorod region, showcasing the extent of the aerial threat.

Artamonov confirmed that one of the drones caused damage to an energy facility, leading to power outages. He described the occurrence of an “explosion of dangerous explosive materials,” while assuring that it took place at a distance from civilian structures.

Meanwhile, reports from Ukrainian sources noted that explosions and fires were also detected in the Russian town of Rylsk in the Kursk region following the drone assault.

Overall, this incident underscores the ongoing tensions and conflict dynamics between Russia and Ukraine, particularly as drone warfare plays a significant role in this conflict.
