Egypt Daily News – Russia has called on Israel to immediately cease its military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, warning of the grave regional and international consequences such actions could trigger.
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Thursday condemning the reported attacks, which included strikes on the Bushehr nuclear power plant and other key Iranian nuclear sites such as Natanz and Isfahan. Moscow emphasized that continued military escalation risks a “catastrophic” outcome for the environment, civilian populations, and global security.
“We strongly urge the Israeli side to stop these dangerous actions immediately,” the statement read, calling the attacks a violation of international norms and a threat to the safety of Russian personnel currently working at the Bushehr facility.
More than 200 Russian specialists are reportedly stationed at the site, which uses Russian-supplied nuclear fuel under strict non-proliferation protocols. President Vladimir Putin earlier stated that Israel had assured Moscow of their safety, but today’s statement indicates growing unease within the Kremlin.
The call comes amid mounting concern in the Gulf region over the potential for radioactive contamination. Gulf states, heavily reliant on desalinated water from the Gulf, fear that any damage to Bushehr could severely impact their water supply and public health.
Moscow’s intervention signals rising diplomatic pressure on Israel, as global powers scramble to prevent the situation from spiraling into a full-blown nuclear or environmental crisis.
