Grain ship hit

Egypt Daily News – Maritime sources reported on Thursday, that the bulk carrier (Aya), flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, was struck by a Russian missile in the Black Sea.

Data from ship tracking showed that the last location of the vessel was off the Romanian port of Constanta on Thursday, and its status indicates that it is stationary, according to Reuters.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a Russian missile struck a grain-laden ship heading to Egypt in the Black Sea.

Zelensky stated in a social media post that “a Russian missile targeted a shipment of wheat heading to Egypt…” “Russia launched a strike on a regular civilian ship in the Black Sea immediately after it left Ukrainian territorial waters.”

No injuries were reported as a result of the attack, according to Zelensky, who called for condemnation of the strike.

He said that “internal stability and normal life in dozens of countries around the world depend on the normal and unrestricted operation of our food corridor.”

The Black Sea is a vital shipping route for Ukraine, one of the largest producers and suppliers of grains, but it has turned into a maritime battleground since Russia invaded Ukraine.

Moscow withdrew last year from a UN-brokered agreement to ensure the safe passage of Ukrainian agricultural exports in the Black Sea, but Kyiv managed to establish a maritime corridor that allows trade to continue.

Global food prices rose when Russia invaded Ukraine amid fears that the conflict in the Black Sea would disrupt global food supplies.
