Egypt Daily News – Former Egyptian Finance Minister Youssef Boutros Ghali appeared at the funeral ceremony of the widow of his late uncle Boutros Boutros Ghali, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, in his first appearance in Egypt after 13 years in London.
Youssef Boutros Ghali attended the condolence mass held for his uncle’s widow, who died at the age of 100, in the Petrine Church in Cairo, where he appeared accompanied by a number of family members, including his brother, the artist Boutros Ghali, in an appearance that was the first of its kind in the country, after he was chosen as a member of the Specialized Council. An Egyptian criminal court acquitted the former Minister of Finance in the case known in the media as “customs corruption,” dropping a previous sentence issued against him in absentia that imposed aggravated imprisonment for 15 years, his removal from his job, and obligating him to return an amount of 35 million and 791 thousand pounds, and a fine equal to the value of this amount.
