Egypt Daily News – The United States launched a series of new airstrikes on Friday targeting Houthi positions in the provinces of Hodeidah and Saada in western and northern Yemen.
According to Houthi-affiliated media, which the U.S. and Yemeni government have designated as a terrorist organization, American jets carried out six airstrikes on the Al-Fazah area in Al-Tuhayat district of Hodeidah, a coastal city in western Yemen. Hodeidah, located on the Red Sea, is one of Yemen’s most important provinces as it has an international airport, three major ports, and a long coastline.
Houthi media also reported that American forces bombed Saqin district in Saada province in northern Yemen but did not provide further details. Saada is considered the main stronghold of the Houthi group. These developments come a day after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to “completely eliminate the Houthis,” as he stated.
The United States began airstrikes last Saturday against what it described as Houthi targets, stating that the operation aims to restore freedom of navigation in the region’s maritime corridors.
A U.S. official also confirmed that the U.S. is sending a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East and extending the deployment of another carrier already stationed in the region, as American military operations against the Houthis in Yemen continue.
The official stated that the USS Harry Truman was originally scheduled to complete its mission at the end of March, but Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth extended its deployment for an additional month. Fighter jets from the Truman participated in airstrikes against the Houthis that began last weekend.
The official added that the USS Carl Vinson will also be deployed to the Middle East after recently completing trilateral exercises in the Pacific with Japan and South Korea.
The decision to extend the Truman’s mission and send the Vinson to the Middle East marks the return of two U.S. aircraft carriers to the region. However, it remains unclear how long they will remain stationed there.
