Egypt Daily News – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently affirmed his support for Egypt’s call for a rapid ceasefire in Gaza during a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aty in New Alamein.

Blinken expressed appreciation for Egypt’s mediation efforts aimed at addressing the ongoing crisis in the region.

Minister Abdel Aty informed Secretary Blinken about his recent diplomatic efforts to mitigate regional tensions and emphasized the need for a lasting and just resolution to the Palestinian issue, advocating for an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Both ministers stressed the strategic nature of U.S.-Egypt relations and their commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including political, military, commercial, and economic domains.

During the meeting, the two sides also agreed on the necessity of convening the second session of the Joint Economic Committee to strengthen economic ties.

Furthermore, they discussed ongoing efforts, in collaboration with Qatar and the United States, to negotiate a ceasefire that would facilitate the exchange of prisoners, protect non-combatants, and increase humanitarian aid to Gaza amidst the unfolding humanitarian crisis.

Minister Abdel Aty expressed hope that forthcoming negotiations would reflect a genuine Israeli intent to end hostilities in Gaza, noting the critical need to alleviate human suffering and maintain regional stability.
