Egypt is set to experience unstable weather on Thursday, March 26, 2026, with thunderstorms, variable rainfall, and strong winds affecting many regions, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority. Officials warned that horizontal visibility could be reduced in some areas due to dust and sand carried by the winds.
Northern Egypt to Receive Moderate Rainfall
The meteorological authority said moderate rainfall is expected in scattered areas along the northern coasts, northern Delta, northern Sinai, and the Gulf of Suez, extending to northern parts of the Red Sea governorate. Some of the rain may be accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly along the northeastern coasts. Rain intensity is expected to gradually decrease as the day progresses.
Cairo and Canal Cities to See Light to Moderate Showers
Areas in southern Delta, Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, central and southern Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt are expected to see light to moderate rainfall, which will ease gradually during the day.
Southern Egypt Forecast
Central and southern Upper Egypt, as well as southern parts of the Red Sea governorate, may experience light showers.
Winds and Reduced Visibility
Winds will pick up across most of the country, ranging from 30 to 50 km/h, increasing the chill factor and raising the potential for blowing sand and dust. The strongest winds are expected in the Western Desert, southern Upper Egypt, and the Red Sea governorate, reducing visibility to less than 1,000 meters in some areas.
Thunderstorm Hazards
Officials warned that thunderstorms may produce strong downdrafts, lightning, hail, and other severe phenomena in certain areas.
Safety Recommendations
The authority advised citizens to exercise caution, avoid standing under trees, billboards, or unstable buildings during windy conditions, and to follow continuous updates from meteorological bulletins. Preparations are recommended to mitigate the impact of these sudden weather changes, especially given the possibility of recurring thunderstorms throughout the day.
