Train kills brother and sister, and angry villagers block the tracks and set fire to the guard’s room

Egypt Daily News – The National Authority for Egyptian Railways announced that at exactly 7:43 AM, while train number 185/2603 (Sohag – Port Said) was passing at kilometer 52/600 next to the closed Belida level crossing, under the watch of a gatekeeper and a regular guard between (Al-Ayyat), the two children who are a brother and sister, Hanin 12/Mousrafa 8 had crossed the tracks from a non-designated crossing point and were run over while the level crossing as per the authorities was closed at the time.

The authority stated in a statement today, Monday, that at exactly 8:30 AM, the station supervisor reported that locals gathered at the crossing, assaulted the crossing guard, and set fire to the guard’s room. Trains (up and down) were halted.

The National Authority for Egyptian Railways urged citizens to adhere to crossing at designated areas (level crossings) and not to cross at non-designated areas, in order to preserve the lives of citizens and the properties of the authority.
