Egypt Daily News – Donald Trump was sworn in today as the 47th President of the United States, succeeding President Joe Biden. In his speech, Trump affirmed his determination to restore security, sovereignty, and justice in the country, saying: “God saved me in order to make America a great nation,” noting that “the American collapse is over.”
Trump added that his priorities would be to make America stronger and more sustainable in the future. He explained that he would put the country’s interests first, stressing that the recent elections are “the greatest in the history of America.”
He also stressed the need to face challenges honestly, pointing to enemies’ attempts to influence the country’s affairs. He criticized the previous government for failing to protect law-abiding citizens while defending convicted criminals.
Trump also thanked Americans of Asian descent, and noted the support of black and Latino Americans. He stressed the need to confront crises forcefully and work quickly to restore security and hope for all citizens.
Regarding health care, he stressed that the current situation is unacceptable, and that he will work to change it. He also spoke about the fires in California that did not receive an adequate response in the previous government, stressing that his government is now capable of confronting crises in the country.
In his election campaign, Trump made a number of promises, a large part of which he was unequivocally able to fulfil, especially with regard to ending the wars in the Middle East, while others remain pending, such as ending the Russian-Ukrainian war within “24 hours.”
In addition to the battles, the Republican leader committed himself to a set of security and economic measures, such as saying that he would “pardon on the first day more than 1,500 people accused of the attack on January 6, 2021.” Not to mention raising customs duties and deporting immigrants. As well as crude statements, in which he explicitly indicated his desire to seize the Panama Canal, Danish Greenland, and a “joke” about making Canada the 51st state, a joke that caused a diplomatic earthquake.
This time, Trump is ruling a country with a different social and economic composition than he left it in his first term, but he will enjoy a majority in both houses of Congress, which gives him broad influence in the reins of power.
There is talk that on the first day he will sign ten executive measures, including tightening rules on immigrants and declaring a state of emergency on the border with Mexico, in addition to cancelling Biden’s environmental regulations, and Washington’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, according to Reuters.
