U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could launch major strikes against Iran’s critical energy infrastructure if ongoing negotiations fail to produce a deal to end the conflict and reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Washington is engaged in “serious discussions” with what he described as a “more reasonable regime,” suggesting that progress toward an agreement is possible. However, he made clear that time is limited and that failure to reach a deal would trigger a forceful response.

Trump threatened that the United States could target Iran’s electric generating facilities, oil wells, and desalination plants, as well as Kharg Island, a key hub for the country’s oil exports. He indicated that these sites have so far been deliberately avoided but could be “completely obliterated” if negotiations collapse and maritime traffic through the Strait is not immediately restored.

The warning highlights the growing stakes surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but crucial waterway through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes. Any prolonged disruption to shipping in the area could have serious implications for global energy markets and economic stability.

Trump’s remarks reflect an increasingly hardline posture as tensions persist, raising concerns among international observers that the situation could escalate further if diplomatic efforts fail to secure a breakthrough in the coming days.
