Egypt Daily News – U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his belief that Ukraine “will be crushed very shortly,” while also claiming in an interview with The Atlantic that he is trying to save the country, amid growing warnings of an expanding war. Trump stated, “I believe I’m saving this country, this country will be crushed soon, let’s be honest,” referring to Ukraine.

Speaking about his previous support for Kyiv, Trump noted that during his first presidential term, he “gave” Ukraine Javelin anti-tank missiles. However, he refrained from promising additional arms if re-elected, emphasizing that support doesn’t necessarily have to come in the form of traditional weapons.

He added, “It doesn’t have to be firearms. It could be sanctions, financial tools, or other forms of pressure. There are different types of weapons.”

Trump argued that the conflict in Ukraine does not currently pose a direct threat to American lives, but warned it could escalate into a third world war.

He said, “If the Biden administration had lasted one more year, the world would have been on the brink of World War III, that’s not going to happen now.”

Trump made similar remarks back in February, warning of the consequences of prolonging the conflict and accusing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a previous meeting of “flirting with World War III.”

Meanwhile, the Kremlin earlier announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, expressed Moscow’s willingness to enter negotiations with Kyiv without preconditions—potentially opening a window for political dialogue more than two years into the war.
