Egypt Daily News – U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized on Monday his commitment to ensuring the recovery of funds spent by the United States to aid Ukraine in its war against Russia.
In a televised interview with Fox News, Trump stated: “I want our money to be secured because we are spending hundreds of billions of dollars.” He added: “They might make a deal, or they might not. They might become part of Russia one day, or they might not. But we’ve put all this money there, and I want it back.”
He mentioned that he had requested from Ukraine the equivalent of $500 billion worth of rare earth minerals, adding that Ukrainian officials had essentially agreed to this, according to his statement.
Trump said: “At the very least, we won’t feel like fools, otherwise we are fools. We have to get something in return. We can’t keep paying this money.”
During his signing a number of executive orders at the White House on Monday evening, Trump said that both Ukraine and Russia wanted to reach a deal. He pointed out that his administration is communicating with both parties, and that he will talk about this matter later.
Trump said at the beginning of February, he wanted Kiev to provide the United States with rare earth minerals in exchange for its support in its war efforts against Russia. After that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy talked about a huge stock of rare ground resources and other important minerals.
