Egypt Daily News – In a major development toward peace in Ukraine, the United States and Ukraine issued a joint statement today announcing the resumption of U.S. security assistance to Ukraine and an agreement to launch immediate negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting peace in the region.

Resumption of Security Aid and Intelligence Sharing

The statement confirmed that the U.S. will restart security assistance to Ukraine, including lifting the freeze on intelligence sharing between the two nations. This move is seen as a crucial step in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid ongoing security challenges.

Peace Negotiations and Temporary Truce

During talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, both sides agreed to begin negotiations immediately to secure a lasting peace. As part of these efforts, Ukraine expressed its willingness to accept a U.S. proposal for an immediate, temporary ceasefire lasting 30 days to create a conducive environment for diplomatic discussions.

Optimism in the Talks

The White House reported a positive atmosphere in the ongoing U.S.-Ukraine discussions in Saudi Arabia, reflecting both parties’ commitment to peaceful resolutions. U.S. National Security Adviser Michael Waltz stated, “Negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation in Jeddah are progressing well.”

Steps Toward Lasting Peace

The U.S. State Department praised the significant steps taken by both nations to restore enduring peace in Ukraine. It emphasized that these joint efforts demonstrate a genuine commitment to ending the conflict and ensuring long-term regional stability.

Top Zelensky aide: ‘Just peace is key’ for Kyiv

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s top aide, Andriy Yermak – who was part of the Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia, has shared a short update. Posting on X, he says protecting Kyiv’s interest is the “most important thing”, while a “just peace” is “key”.

He thanks the US and Saudi officials for a “constructive meeting”.
