Egypt Daily News – A surveillance footage from the villa of Dr. Nawal El-Degwi, has emerged, which was reportedly burglarized, according to a formal complaint that she has filed.
The video, recorded by security cameras at Dr. El-Degwi’s residence on November 17, 2024, shows individuals carrying bags and placing them into a vehicle parked at the property. The footage suggests that some family members were frequenting the house during that period and suspicions zero in on her grandson, from her late son.
The details surrounding the burglary of Dr. El-Degwi’s villa remain unclear and puzzling. A forensic investigation team was dispatched to the property to lift fingerprints from three safes that were allegedly broken into. The reported stolen items include 50 million Egyptian pounds, 3 million U.S. dollars, 350,000 British pounds, and approximately 15 kilograms of gold jewelry.
Preliminary investigations have revealed ongoing family disputes over inheritance. These tensions reportedly began after the death of Dr. El-Degwi’s son, Dr. Sherif El-Degwi, in April 2015, and escalated following the passing of her daughter, Mona El-Degwi, in March 2025. Sources mentioned that the family had a meeting and had agreed to return the stolen items, but nothing was returned.
Investigators noted that there have been several legal complaints exchanged between Mona’s daughters on one side, and their cousins (children of Sherif El-Degwi) on the other. Most of these reports concern allegations of misappropriation of family assets.
The security authorities in the First October Police Department received Dr. El-Degwi’s complaint, in which she stated that she discovered the theft of gold jewelry and large sums of money in both Egyptian and foreign currencies from her home.
Law enforcement officers are currently intensifying their efforts to uncover the circumstances of the case and identify the perpetrator(s). The public prosecution has been notified and is leading the investigation.
