Egypt Daily News – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday in an interview with British broadcaster Peres Morgan that he was ready to hold direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and with other parties, mostly the United States and the European Union, to end the ongoing war in Ukraine three years ago. But the Kremlin described these statements on Wednesday as “hollow words.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Tuesday his willingness to negotiate directly with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, with the aim of ending the war launched by Moscow against his country about three years ago.

On the other hand, the Kremlin described these statements as “hollow words”. “Preparation must be based on something and so far this can only be considered hollow words,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

In response to a question about the possibility of negotiating with Putin, the British Lieutenant -Colonel Pierce Morgan answered, Zelinski replied that he would do so, “If this is the only framework through which we can bring peace to the citizens of Ukraine.”

“We will accept this framework, this meeting with four participants.”

The Ukrainian president did not specify the identity of the other participating parties, but before that Morgan proposed the hypothesis of negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, the United States and the European Union.

Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, the possibility of peace negotiations to end the Russian invasion since February 24, 2022. Zelinski continued to reject the idea of these negotiations, stressing that he wanted a victory over Russia in the battlefield.

Putin had announced at the end of January that he was open to negotiating to end the conflict in Ukraine, but he refused direct negotiations with Zelinski. He said that if the Ukrainian president wants to “participate in negotiations, I will choose people who will negotiate with him.”
