Egypt Daily News – The White House announced on Friday that a military parade organized by former President Donald Trump will be held on June 14, coinciding with both the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Army and Trump’s 79th birthday. This will be the first full-scale military parade in Washington since the end of the Gulf War in 1991.
The event is expected to include U.S. military personnel, cadets from military academies, reenactors, and historical military equipment ranging from the Revolutionary War to the Global War on Terror.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly shared the announcement on the platform X, saying the parade aims to honor U.S. veterans and active service members. She also linked to a Fox News article detailing the event’s scope and participants.
The idea of a military parade was first proposed by Trump during his presidency after he attended France’s Bastille Day celebrations in 2017. However, it was canceled in 2018 due to an estimated cost of 92 million dollars and concerns over damage to city infrastructure from tanks and heavy military vehicles.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser voiced renewed concerns about the revived plan, warning that military tanks could damage city streets and that millions of dollars would be needed for repairs.
According to reports, the planned route may stretch up to six kilometers, from the Pentagon to the White House.
The last time Washington saw such a military parade was in 1991, celebrating victory in the Gulf War.
